WHAT WE DOGenuine personal health is not just an absence of symptoms. It is a harmonious equilibrium between the physical, psychological, spiritual and environmental dimensions of life. Healthy persons have a realistic and positive identity, a transcendent and vital meaning for their life, and freedom from enslavement to sin, psychopathology, and negative social conditioning.
They are able to give and receive real love, and to know and love what is objectively good, true and beautiful in natural and supernatural reality. They freely share their love, especially with those who are marginalized and unwanted. They are able to enjoy life and be creative.
Healthy persons appreciate those conditions that make it easier for people to be happier and holier, namely: - marriage and family life - prayer, meditation and communal worship of God - periods of solitude, silence and stillness - development of real friendships - contact with nature, art, music and literature - physical exercise Healthy persons are imperfect, sinful and may be struggling with psychological, marital and family problems. Nevertheless, they have a deep positive meaning for their lives and for their suffering. And they have hope.
To achieve the mission of SMI, a team works cooperatively with each patient in helping him or her achieve their objectives. Psychiatrists focus on correcting any biological components of a patient’s disorder, through medication if necessary. Psychologists and other mental health professionals help the patient work through the psychological conflicts, injuries and deprivations interfering with healthy development. Priests are available to support and guide the spiritual development of the person, marriage or family. Last but not least, patients can be referred to excellent programs, when appropriate, that powerfully support psychological and spiritual growth. These include programs for single mothers, programs for seriously troubled marriages, and twelve-step programs for addictions. WARRANTIES AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
